Is A Degree Just A Degree?

For EM 747, Trending Insights: Social Data Analysis and Visualization, for our final project, we wrote a data story on the how the college high school seniors choose to attend may determine their projected salary over the course of their career.

Choosing an undergraduate institution is a big decision for several reasons. Prospective students consider a variety of factors, such as the university’s geographic location, course offerings, and the institution’s potential to be a starting point to obtain the highest starting salary following graduation. Our general topic of interest is how the college one chooses to attend ultimately affects their starting salary following graduation. Particularly, we believe there is a meaningful data story behind an individual’s college search and their eventual job search. Our proposed data story will tell the story of two college graduates and contrast their experiences in public state university to a private ivy league institution.
